Pilot year evaluations report of Hispanic Student Workforce Program

Washington, DC – October 3, 2023 – The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) is proud to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.

In accordance with National Hispanic Heritage Month, SOPHE will kick off the second cohort of its Step-Up Pipelines Program in early October. The Step-Up Pipelines Program seeks to increase the representation of Hispanic and Latino professionals in the public health workforce.

Beginning in October 2023, a cohort of 15 Hispanic and Latino undergraduate students from six partner Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) will participate in the eight-month program.

National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans with roots in all Latin American countries.

The Step-Up Pipelines Program will use the learnings from the pilot year report to drive the second cohort of the program. This report provides an overview of SOPHE’s Step-Up Pipelines Program, the evaluations, and recommendations from the pilot year that took place from October 2022 through May 2023.

“SOPHE is firmly committed to promoting and advocating for diversity and health equity. We are dedicated to ensuring that the second year of the program continues to bridge the gap in workforce development while empowering Hispanic/Latinx students to excel in the field of public health,” says Doreleena Sammons Hackett, SM, SOPHE’s director of Grants Administration.

SOPHE is currently planning the virtual education sessions and is looking for SOPHE members who are interested in being speakers or mentors for the program. Contact oikejiani@sophe.org f for more information.
