Eight members elected to SOPHE’s 2020-2021 Board of Trustees

New SOPHE leadership in 2020

Washington, D.C. – February 1, 2020 – The Society for Public Health Education, Inc. (SOPHE) congratulates eight members elected to the SOPHE 2020-2021 Board of Trustees.

The new board members will be inducted and begin their terms of office on March 18, 2020 during the all-member business meeting at SOPHE 2020 71st Annual Conference in Atlanta. They will join 12 other board members who in total comprise SOPHE’s governing body.

Deborah Fortune, PhD, FAAHE, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Education, North Carolina Central University, will serve a three-year term as president-elect, president and immediate past president from March 2020 through spring 2023.

Two-year term positions:
Secretary: Rachael Dombrowski, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Wayne State University, College of Education, Division of Kinesiology, Health and Sport Studies, Community Health Program, Detroit. Rachael also will serve as a member of SOPHE’s Executive Committee.

Trustee, Communications: Beth Chaney, PhD, MCHES,® Associate Professor, Department of Health Education & Promotion, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.

Trustee, Membership & Leadership: Antonio Gardner, PhD, MS, CHES,® Assistant Professor, Health Promotion, Department of Food Science, Nutrition, & Health Promotion, Mississippi State University, Mississippi State.

Trustee, Professional Preparation: Ashley Parks, DrPH, MPH, MBA, MTech, MCHES,® CPH, Assistant Professor, California Baptist University and Quality and Performance Improvement Consultant, Riverside, California.

Trustee, 2021 Annual Conference: Darcy Scharff, PhD, Professor, Behavioral Science and Health Education and director of the Office of Public Health, Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice, St. Louis.

Trustee, Research & Ethics: Jody Vogelzang, PhD, RDN, CHES,® FAND, Associate Professor and Program Director, Master of Clinical Dietetics program, Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

One-year term position:
Trustee, Student: Rebecca Rich,MA, CHES,® Graduate Assistant and third year doctoral student, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

In addition to these individuals elected by National SOPHE members, the House of Delegates selected Molly Brown, MPH, Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, College of Health Professions, Wichita State University as Speaker of the House. She will be joined on the board with three other representatives of SOPHE’s 23 chapters.
