Washington – The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) announces the establishment of the R. Brick Lancaster Community Health Internship Award. This student internship is in honor of R. Brick Lancaster, CHES, a practitioner who worked for several decades at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and helped champion the link between research and public health practice.

This award, given for the first time in 2018, will support a full-time undergraduate or graduate student intern who will conduct a health education and health promotion project that addresses a significant public or school health issue identified by a public health department or community agency.

The competitive internship includes a stipend, a SOPHE student membership, and an opportunity to present the project results at a SOPHE Annual Conference, Advocacy Summit and/or publication in one of SOPHE’s peer-reviewed journals.

Interested students should submit their application by the December 1, 2017 deadline. Awardees are selected by the SOPHE Awards Committee for their scientific/theoretical basis, originality, and potential contribution to health education practice.
