SOPHE provides networking and professional development opportunities for health education researchers, practitioners, young professionals and students by sponsoring an Annual Meeting, a Midyear Scientific Conference, and co-sponsoring an annual Health Education Advocacy Summit. Periodically, SOPHE co-sponsors other conferences with partner organizations.

History of SOPHE Meetings
For more than 35 years, the SOPHE Annual Meeting has been held the weekend immediately preceding the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting. The program comprises invited plenary and concurrent sessions, as well as sessions and poster presentations selected through the “Call for Abstracts.” Other highlights from the one and one-half day conference includes an opening social, SOPHE awards banquet, career center, exhibits, a mentorship program and a wellness challenge.
SOPHE’s Midyear Scientific Conference was first held in Puerto Rico in 1983, with some 80-90 attendees. Since then, the meeting has become a regular event held each spring for two and a half days— with the location usually geographically balanced with the annual meeting to enable SOPHE members in different parts of the country to participate.
SOPHE conferences offer you the best return-on-investment, with all fees for contact education contact hours for certified health education specialists included in the registration price. To maximize your travel, SOPHE meetings feature “hot topic” pre- and post-conference workshops, as well as optional social events and tours.
